May 2025 President’s Corner

May is a month full of civic opportunities for Cotuit residents, and it seems like a good moment for acting local.

On Saturday, May 10, the Civic Association hosts its annual Cleanup Day (see the sidebar on page 2 for information on how to sign up), and later in the month, there are three important events around Cotuit Fire District budgets and elections:

  • Tuesday May 20, 7 p.m., Candidates and Budget Night at Freedom Hall and via Zoom. Learn about the Fire District budgets and the candidates for Fire District offices.
  • Tuesday, May 27, 4-8 p.m., election day for Cotuit Fire District. Vote at Freedom Hall or by absentee ballot (ballots are available at the Water Department, 4300 Falmouth Road).
  • Wednesday, May 28, 7:30 p.m., Annual District Meeting at Cotuit Federated Church. Come vote on warrants related to the funding of the proposed firehouse renovations and the future of the Cotuit school property.

At the Civic Association’s annual Candidates and Budget night on Tuesday, May 20, Cotuit Fire District officials will review their proposed budgets and warrant articles in advance of the Annual District Meeting eight days later. You will also hear from and may ask questions of the candidates who will stand for election on Tuesday, May 27. Four positions are up for election, each for a three-year term: Town Moderator, and one member each on the Board of Fire Commissioners, Board of Water Commissioners, and Prudential Committee.

The day after voting for District candidates, we get to vote on the District’s next fiscal-year budget at the Annual District Meeting on Wednesday, May 28. Residents must attend in person to vote.

I look forward to seeing everyone at these events! If you have any questions, please email us at the address below.
